Service and Philanthropy are cornerstones of our organization and are truly close to our heart. Alpha Phi’s at Arizona State hold and participate in many service activities to give back to our community, bettering ourselves and the place we call home. Our philanthropic efforts primarily focus on our Fraternity’s International cause, the Alpha Phi Foundation, which raises awareness and funds to research the number one kill of women in America—heart disease. Since 1946, Alpha Phi has donated more than $1 million to support cardiac health initiative. Our efforts also benefit our chapter’s local charity, the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. At the Gamma Pi chapter we raise awareness and funds for our philanthropies through two major events—our Cardiac Awareness Event: Bounce for Beats and the Red Dress Gala.

 

The year 2010 marked the first annual Bounce for Beats Cardiac Awareness Event. As a whole, the sisters of the Gamma Pi chapter of Alpha Phi decided to change their usual spring philanthropic activity to a fun day of cardiac awareness open to the whole community. Because this event is free of charge with the primary goal of raising awareness, not money, it is not considered a philanthropic event; but donations for our Alpha Phi Foundation are accepted from those who wish to donate. This event brings anticipation and excitement from all of Greek life, Arizona State University and the surrounding community!

 

The Red Dress Gala is a fundraiser many collegiate chapters of Alpha Phi have adopted as their signature event and philanthropy. Our Gala occurs during Parents’ Weekend hosted by ASU and includes a reception, dinner with a live band, and silent auction at an elegant venue. All Alpha Phi’s wear red dresses in honor of our cause. All of the proceeds are donated to Cardiac Care in hopes of advancing research and fighting heard disease. Each year we raise well over $20,000, though we challenge ourselves to increase our funds each year! For us, this special occasion allows us to share our philanthropic vision with family and friends while dressed in red.
